First and Foremost, Cal Poly Pomona is a beautiful campus to work at 365 days a year! However, it is something special about the summertime that just makes one pause, take a deep breath, and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us on a daily basis. The skies are serenely beautiful, the aromatic fragrance of the fresh flowers are more than delightful, the trees are greener than ever, and the ducks are hungry; how much better does it get!
Aside from enjoying life as a Bronco, the summer staff at Cal Poly remains active as we await the rest of our team to begin training, working hard, but never forgetting to stop and smell the flowers.
-Until Next Time World
It is summer time here at CPP and I am excited for my summer employment collateral assignment. I get to work 80% at Orientation Services and 20% in University Housing Services. This opportunity has been a great experience and is helping me gain experience in another area of Student Affairs.
At Orientation Services I get to work with the Orientation Leaders, Professional Staff, and Parent, Family and Guest at the Orientation. My day ranges from meeting and greeting the parents to interacting with campus partners such as the AVP and staff from various departments on campus. I also get to work with amazing PFG Orientation leaders that run the program. In this experience, I have expanded my knowledge about campus wide resources available to first year students and transfer students.
While in housing for my 20% I get to work on Fall 2012 RA training. We are working on having a fun, interactive, and hands on training for our experienced RAs and new RAs. Sessions will range from programming, emergency topics, to the best part, ice breakers/team builders. While having to split my time in 2 offices, I have definitely appreciated how my experience in Residence Life has helped me deal and solve many tasks at Orientation Services. Every time I see my Orientation Leaders I think of all the great years of all the great RAs we have at UHS and the future RAs for this upcoming year.
